Bicycle tour during the Amsterdam Light Festival
During the Amsterdam Light Festival, artists, architects, and designers from all over the world showcase Amsterdam’s heritage in a special way. Their light artworks are designed and created especially for the festival. A-Bike organises a bicycle tour lasting two hours, every day of the week, which goes past the boat and walking route. The bilingual guides (Dutch and English) will tell you everything about the light artworks and the artists. The starting point of the tour is A-Bike Dam Square.
The Water Exposition and the Land Exposition
The Water Exposition consists of artworks along Amsterdam’s most beautiful canals, and the Amstel river. This exposition lasts the entire festival period: from December 1st 2017 till January 21st 2018. The Land Exposition is slightly shorter: from December 14th 2017 till January 7th 2018. For the first time, the Land Exposition will not be held in the Plantage neighbourhood, but on the Marineterrein. What is special about the A-Bike Light Festival Tour is that you combine the best of these two expositions.
What will you see during the A-Bike Light Festival Tour?
Over 900 submissions by artists from 45 countries were sent in for the Amsterdam Light Festival 2017. From this selection, the organisation chose 35 surprising light artworks and installations. This edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival is extra special because of the collaboration with world-renowned Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei. Especially for the Amsterdam Light Festival, he designed the 6.5 kilometers long artwork ‘thinline’. This work winds through the entire festival terrain like a guiding thread, and connects all the artworks with each other.
