Mademoiselle Kori : Sinem

Her name is Sinem, she has Turkish and French roots and she is always ready to help everyone. She is our Customer Care Manager but her job also involves making the schedules for all the ‘A-Bike team players’, so she is very important 😛

She seems quiet but through the day the energy starts to flow and you will see her dancing or singing (on her own) and be making jokes to other colleagues! Get to know her better through her interview with our social media team. Oh, by the way, she loves Harry Potter movies, books, and accessories.

What is your name?

Which languages do you speak?

French, Turkish, English and Spanish so so

Where were you born?

I was born in La Rochelle, it is on the west coast of France.

Why do you get angry?

I am an impatient girl, so I can get angry when I don’t get what I want immediately, and I insist on the word immediately.

What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up?

Going back to sleep, five more minutes, please.

What is your favorite place in the world?

Home, with my family, my parents and good food. It is the best place.

What do you think about Dutch people?

First, I thought it was a myth but Dutch people are super tall, blond a lot of them blue-eyed. At the beginning they look a bit cold, you don’t really know how to talk with them but after a while actually, they are really funny, very open-minded, helpful. So never judge someone from the first impression.

How do you start a conversation?

Actually, I never start conversations, people come to me because I am too shy when I don’t know someone. And when I know the people I always start with Hey! How are you doing?

How do you end one?

Ok I gotta go, Bye! We talk later.

What is the longest you have gone without sleep?

Not long, 36 hours maybe. I love to sleep. It happened in New Year’s Eve two years ago, because I didn’t have the choice, I wasn’t in my house and I didn’t know where we were so I couldn’t go home. I was like “Ok I need to stay awake till the first metro runs” and then I came back home with my friends.

What’s your favorite food?

Might sound like oh my god, this girl is trying to be healthy but broccoli, I am a fan of broccoli.

What’s the food you like to cook the most?

Chicken, I cook everything with chicken.

How many times do you breathe in a minute?

64, wait! Can we do it? I’m going to do it. I will say 30, once every two seconds more or less.

Is there something that you would like to change in your past?

Maybe moved abroad sooner. Since I moved, I have noticed that I changed a lot and I improved myself a lot, so maybe instead of moving in my 21 years old , I would have done it before, like 19.

Which one is your favorite tv show?

I am a big fan of Stranger things and Game of Thrones, of course. These two I can watch them over again.

Netflix or look for on internet for the movie?

I don’t have Netflix, but otherwise Netflix.

Beach or mountain?

Hot or cold?

So what are you doing in The Netherlands if you prefer hot?

It is a question I am still asking myself. I think if you are always in a hot or warm place you don’t enjoy as much as if you live in a cold place and you go to another place. I miss it and when I go I really enjoy it.

What’s your favorite word?

Food (laugh).

If I tell you the world will end in 24 hours, what would you do?

I will spend all the money I have in my account, I don’t wanna die having money. And I will spend all of it on food, I will eat until I explode.

So you won’t wait 24 hours to die?

No, but I will die in a nice way, right? And I will also call my family, one by one.

Beer, wine or cocktail?

Cocktail, especially Mojito.

If I tell you that I know your future what would be the first thing you would ask me?

Will I still look young? How will I look like? Grey hair, a lot of wrinkles. Fat, thin?…

What is the first thing you did when you came to Amsterdam?

I went to Zandaam to Primark. So the first thing I did was shopping.

What is the weirdest thing you have done?

That’s the thing, I never do weird things. I would like to but I have never done anything weird.

Airplane, car, spaceship, boat, motorcycle, walk, bicycle, hover, subway or teleportation?

Teleportation, of course, you can go to any place really fast.

What was the last gift you gave to someone and when?

The last gift I gave was to Laura, it was today. I went to Paris so I gave her a keychain of the Eiffel Tower.

Do you like your job and why?

Yes, I do. My job is to answer emails, check the reservations and stuff like that, so it also happens that I can be in the shop, get in contact with the people but also have them beforehand to prepare their trip. It is like I am involved and I am also going with them on the trip.

What was your most strange experience with a customer and why?

It was a couple of months ago, I was on my own at the shop and this guy came in, he started to talk to me and of course, I needed to answer because he was a customer. And then he started to ask for all my contact details: Facebook, WhatsApp, phone number… He was all the time coming back to the shop until I gave to him. I wasn’t feeling good the rest of the hours. So I gave him a fake number and then I warned all my colleagues, if he comes back I am not here.

How does a phone work?

It is quite complicated actually a phone, there are a lot of small things, electronic things that are together behind your phone, where the battery is, so you can not see it and it is all wireless thanks to the satellites around the earth. Well I think, I will check after the interview.

Can you recall your favorite customer while at A-Bike and why?

I don’t have a favorite customer, I love them all.

What makes you wanna sleep?

Usually when I watch a screen too long, or after eating.

Cat woman or superwoman?

Cat woman because I love her outfit, sexy girl.

What do you work toward in your free time?

I clean my house, I organize the future trips that I am never going to. Really I am a lazy girl.

A flower comes in the shop and asks to rent a bike, what do you do?

First I give the flower water, then I will ask for how long does it want the bike, like a normal customer. But actually, it is strange that a flower comes to the shop. I don’t know how I will react, maybe take a picture as a souvenir, maybe that will be my favorite customer.

Why are the clouds white?

I don’t know, they are maybe racist (laugh). I really don’t know, I’m not a scientist. But it is better white because if they were dark we will feel dark everywhere.

Do you feel lucky or unlucky and why?

Of course, I feel lucky, I have everything I need. I have a house, a job, I have friends, what else do you need?

What inspires you?

When I compare my life before Amsterdam and after. I always look from where I come from and where I am going and I always see that I have done really good and I can still do better, that’s what inspires me. I inspire myself.

Which is your favorite application for the phone?

WhatsApp, because I am always texting through WhatsApp.

Have you ever date a customer?

No, well let me think… ok no (do we believe it?)

Do you believe in time machines?

No, I would have used it already. I only believe what I see and I have never seen anybody saying: Hey! I am coming from the future! Just in the movies. I don’t think it is possible to move a human through the time. It is something that people dream about but it will never happen.

How do you define stress and what do you do to tackle it?

Stress is a situation that is moving when you are in front of it and you don’t know how to handle it. So usually what you need to do is take a few steps back, relax, think about it and usually you always find a solution. Basically, stress it is an unknown situation.

Usually, I don’t focus on what is stressing me, I leave it away and then when I am calm, I come back to it, but I really rest my mind, it can take for me months, years.

Which would be the next three countries you would like to travel to?

I really wanna go to see Italy, especially Roma; Australia, but for a gap year, just take my backpack and go on an adventure and the last one Japan, I heard a lot of things like people are really respectful, dressing in a really manga way. I can eat all the sushi in the world. Japan has a lot of things that we don’t have, we think it is strange here but they are okay with that.
